Those of us who cultivate a mindful practice get pretty excited to share that practice with others. I’ve discovered a host of free tools online to help you develop a mindfulness practice of your very own!

Mindfulness, says Jon Kabat-Zinn, is “paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally, to the unfolding of experience moment to moment.” Developing a practice of mindful awareness can help decrease stress and increase a person’s sense of well being. Here are just a few of many tools online to help you develop your own practice:

Free MP3s and video from the University of Vermont (mindful yoga!)

Videos from Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hanh, among others.

More free MP3s, a body scan and other meditations from UCSD

Even more free mindfulness meditations from UCLA. This one includes a body scan for sleep.

Mindful Hatha yoga (1)

Mindful Hatha yoga (2)

Tara Brach’s podcasts and meditations

Free online course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (this is really really neat)

Audio Dharma: free mp3s of dharma talks on mindfulness and more

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one telling everyone about mindfulness as a necessary part of a healthy life. Plus–the practice is free, simple to learn, and full of possibility. Give it a try today!
